On Saturday, October 31, at 2 pm, the QM will present its first Dialogue of the season at the Chapelle historique du Bon-Pasteur. Like in previous years, the Dialogues offer open discussions with the public, some musical excerpts and information, all around the works to be performed during the Twentieth and Beyond concert presented the following week.
The Twentieth and Beyond concert, entitled Espaces sonores, will be held at the all new concert hall of the Conservatoire de musique de Montréal, located at 4750, avenue Henri-Julien (Mont-Royal Metro station). The programme includes Quartet no.2, by Canadian composer Alexina Louie, Ainsi la nuit, by Henri Dutilleux and Benjamin Britten's Quartet no.3. Tickets will be sold at the door on the night of the concert.
During its concert on Thursday May 14 2009, at 8 pm, at the Chapelle historique du Bon-Pasteur, the Molinari Quartet announced the names of the prizewinners of its Fourth International competition for Composition for String Quartet. The winners were selected from 92 entries submitted from applicants aged less than 40. The jury, comprising members of the Molinari Quartet and composers Ana Sokolovic and Brian Cherney convened in May to evaluate 92 original scores received from 32 countries.
An 11th Opus Award was presented to the Molinari Quartet during the last Opus Awards Ceremony, held at Salle Claude-Champagne (Université de Montréal), on January 25, 2009.
This time, the Québec Music Council awarded the Molinari Quartet in the category Concert of the year - Modern and Contemporary Music for its concert Mutual Influences, held on February 8, 2008.
Works performed at this concert were A Way Alone, by Toru Takemitsu, Fonctions vitales, by Nicolas Gilbert (which was premiered), Quartet no.10 Winter Birds, by R. Murray Schafer and Alfred Schnittke's second quartet.
Created by the Québec Music Council, the Opus Awards honor excellence on the Québec concert scene.
The Molinari Quartet was honoured with two Opus Awards for its concert Le Quatuor selon Bartók (The Quartet according to Bartók) performed on December 3, 2006, at Redpath Hall, concert which comprised the complete cycle of the Hungarian composer's works for string quartet.
The prizes, Concert of the Year - Contemporary, new music and Concert of the Year - Montreal (including a $3,000 grant from the Montreal Arts Council) were given by the Quebec Music Council during the 11th Opus Awards Gala held on January 27, 2008, at Claude-Champagne Hall.
In homage to the artist Guido Molinari (1933-2004), who passed away on February 21st, 2004, the Molinari Quartet has released an edition of fifty posthumous prints of its logo, created by the painter in 1997.
50 hand-made, four-colour prints, executed by engraver Robert Soucy, Molinari's close collaborator, are now available to the public. Using a model produced by Gino Molinari, the prints were made at Molinari's engraving studio in Saint-Donat, Quebec. They are available at $100 each.
